Personal Narrative

I personally, do not really relate to most of the characters in Great Expectations. However even though Pip is an orphan born into poverty, I can relate to him in a sense. For example, Pip strives to do very well and succeed in his education, I happen to take mine very seriously as well. He is a very determined character who wants more than anything to fulfill his goal of becoming a gentleman. The reader can see this when he seeks extra help from Biddy, so he can learn more. Even though most likely he would not have become a wealthy gentleman he strove to reach his goal. I am like Pip because when I start something, I cannot give up, I have to finish it. In general I have great expectations for myself and clearly Pip does too. While my expectations are very different than Pip’s, we both have the urge to succeed.
Another reason I am like Pip is because I tend to get my hopes up, and then the reality is different from my expectations. This is very much “Pip-like” because Pip thinks by becoming a gentleman he can win over Estella and they will spend the rest of their days together. However this doesn’t happen and Pip ends up rather lonely and gets sick. I do this with many things, for instance if I think something is going to be easy, I’ll save it for last minute, and more often than not, it is much harder than expected. Clearly, Pip and I are similar in a few aspects.
